My name is Billy Plante and I was raised by wolves.

My practice mainly focuses on illustration, most recently in the form of Gifs (Graphics Interchange Format), which are usually small animations. I am fascinated by the challenge of working with Gifs. Their minimalist structure can have its own beauty, while conveying a powerful or humorous message.

My current work is mainly inspired by psychedelia and 1950s sci-fi. I am interested in the way that advances in technology and astronomy has changed public perceptions of outer space.

I have experience of working in art galleries such as Eastside Gallery and also as a volunteer in the ‘Minimum Monument’ project creating five thousand ice figures with the Brazilian artist Nele Azevedo that were placed in Centenary Square (Birmingham). I was also formally trained as a Tattoo Artist. The knowledge and independence gained from these experiences has fed into my practice.

Throughout my art and design education, my work has developed through a range of techniques and practices in both 2 and 3 dimensions; from making a 3D reconstruction of the NASA Pioneer 10 spacecraft to creating a film about the utopian dream of Bournville Village (Birmingham).
